Mark Redman will pitch for the Oakland Athletics after all.
Less than 24 hours after not being tendered an offer, the Athletics on Sunday agreed to terms on a three-year contract with a mutual option with Redman, who was acquired from the world champion Florida Marlins early last week.
The 29-year-old
Redman went 14-9 with a 3.59 ERA in 29 starts for the Marlins but struggled
during the postseason.
In the National League Division and Championship Series, the lefthander allowed
nine earned runs in 15 2/3 innings over three starts. In Game Two of the World
Series, he surrendered four earned runs in just 2 1/3 frames.
Redman, who also has pitched for Minnesota and Detroit, is 37-39 with a 4.27 ERA in 207 career games, including 95 starts. He is expected to slide into Oakland's fourth starter role vacated by the trade of Ted Lilly.
The Athletics also agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outfielder Billy McMillon.
In 66 games with Oakland last season, the 32-year-old McMillon batted .268 with six home runs and 26 RBI. He collected 10 hits as a pinch hitter, leading the American League, and added a homer and seven RBI.
McMillon, who also has played for Florida, Philadelphia and Detroit, owns a .259 career average with 13 homers and 82 RBI in 217 games.
