Manager Mike Scioscia got a good look at the depth his Anaheim Angels have in their powerful lineup.
They pounded 14 hits with Garret Anderson and Tim Salmon on the sidelines.
Jose Guillen hit a three-run homer, Troy Glaus added a two-run shot, and the Angels began their longest road trip of the season with a 12-2 win over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night.
Barry Zito (2-2), the 2002 AL Cy Young Award winner, allowed a career-high nine runs on 10 hits in four innings as his ERA climbed from 3.32 to 6.26. Zito beat the Angels 7-1 last Sunday.
``The first time we faced him at our park we had him on the ropes early,'' Scioscia said. ``But he made some pitches and got out of some jams. When he's hot, he's good. He makes you work for it. Tonight, any mistakes he made, we were hitting. We're fortunate to get to Barry.''
Vladimir Guerrero had three hits for the Angels, including a pair of doubles, and Jarrod Washburn (3-1) pitched five effective innings.

Darin Erstad had three hits, hitting a two-run double and a run-scoring single.
Glaus also had an RBI single.
``We have a lot of confidence in our offensive ability and our ability to pressure clubs,'' Scioscia said.
Anaheim sure did that to Zito.
The Angels got seven hits in the first two innings against the star left-hander. Zito threw 29 pitches in the second inning and had 51 through two. His previous high for runs allowed was eight against Texas on April 14, 2001, and last Aug. 2 against the New York Yankees.
``I wasn't any less intense or less aggressive,'' Zito said. ``I think they changed their approach against me and the changeup got hit.''
Washburn has beaten two of the A's ``Big Three'' pitchers this season -- he defeated Mark Mulder on April 17 in Anaheim. The lefty gave up a two-run homer to Eric Byrnes in the fifth.
``I'm not happy to just go five innings,'' Washburn said. ``But I'm 3-1 and I've thrown poorly. What will I be when I throw better? This is the best start of my career.''

Anderson, the only player in the majors to play in at least 150 games and get 600 or more at-bats in each of the previous seven years, missed his second game of the season because of stiffness in his upper back. Salmon missed his fourth straight game with a sore left knee.
Anaheim still managed to get good production from its entire lineup in its first of nine straight road games. After a three-game set in Oakland, the Angels travel to Detroit and Minnesota.
These two teams are the early favorites to compete for the AL West title, which the A's have won the past two seasons. Oakland took two of three at Anaheim last week.
Glaus connected for his team-leading sixth homer with two outs in the first, sending the ball half way up the left-field bleachers. Guillen, who finished last season with the A's, hit his first homer of the year on the first pitch Zito threw him in the fourth -- another big hit for Anaheim with two outs.
Guillen was happy to homer after having a hard time warming up before the game.
``This is probably the worst BP I've ever had. It was so soft like toilet paper,'' he said. ``The first (home run) is out of the way and I don't have to think about it anymore. I hope this is going to keep me going and I'll hit the way I'm supposed to.''
Washburn loaded the bases in the third with a single and three walks, bringing Jermaine Dye to the plate with two outs.
Dye, off to a good start after missing much of last season with two injuries, lined out to second base on an impressive diving catch by Adam Kennedy.
Washburn gave up two runs, five hits and five walks.

Anaheim scored two unearned runs in the ninth after an error by 3B Adam Melhuse.
