The Philadelphia Phillies, who have retooled their bullpen, on Thursday agreed to a one-year contract with righthander Amaury Telemaco.

Telemaco, who will earn $525,000, plus performance bonuses, was eligible for arbitration.

"We're pleased to have Amaury back," Phillies assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "He pitched very well toward the end of the year for us and provides us with great versatility in that he can start or relieve depending upon how our rotation shapes up."

The Phillies turned a weakness into a strength by acquiring Billy Wagner from the Houston Astros and signing Tim Worrell and Roberto Hernandez.

After going 10-9 with a 3.24 ERA in 25 games for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Telemaco was called up to Philadelphia in August. He went 1-4 with a 3.97 ERA in eight starts with the Phillies, pitching at least six innings in five of the eight starts.

Telemaco is 23-32 with a 5.03 ERA in 170 career games over seven major league seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks and Phillies.

Philadelphia has five arbitration-eligible players remaining, including outfielder Ricky Ledee, second baseman Placido Polanco and shortstop Jimmy Rollins.
