The Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Friday agreed to terms with recently acquired infielder Geoff Blum and pitcher Rob Bell on one-year contracts.
Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
The Devil Rays
acquired Blum from the Houston Astros for pitcher Brandon Backe on Sunday.
A veteran of five major league seasons with Montreal and the Astros, the 30-year-old
Blum batted .262 with 10 home runs and a career-high 52 RBI in 123 games last
season. In 570 career contests, he has a .262 average with 48 homers and 217
RBI.
Blum, a switch-hitter, played six positions for Houston last season - all four infield positions as well as left and right fields.
Bell went 5-4 with a 5.52 ERA in 19 games - 18 starts - for the Devil Rays last season. He signed with Tampa Bay last March following his release by Texas and began the season at Class AAA Durham before being called up in mid-June. The 26-year-old righthander was a member of the starting rotation for the remainder of the season.
